In Old Town Albuquerque, thousands and thousands of farolitos, candles set in brown paper bags filled with sand, more commonly referred to as luminarias, line the path of strollers, carolers, and general do-gooders. It’s a traditional symbol of the spirit of the season in New Mexico, and the glow from these festive dirt bags is powerfully nurturing, and an awe-inspiring visual feast. Quite magical.
If you are reading this from afar, and want to light your fire in the new year, visit ABQ next Christmas. You’ll love it.
TIP: Book your ABQ Ride Luminaria Tour early, as it sells out swiftly.
Be a little luminaria today, and shine brightness to each you encounter. Merry, merry Christmas!
